  • Divorce certificate in the event that either has been married before, or a death certificate (with translation into Greek).
  • The appropriate authorities must certify the Certificate of No Impediment (CNI). Greek and English must be used on the certificate and be apostilled
  • Proof of newspaper wedding announcements, should one of the couple is a Greek citizen.

Since 1961, Hague Convention apostilles, or apostille stamps, have facilitated the legalization of documents for use across international borders. The Hague Convention was established on October 5, 1961. The Apostille stamp allows the document to be legally recognized by confirming its authenticity. Visiting a government office in the country where the document was first obtained to receive copies of documents such as divorce decrees and birth certificates. Keep in mind that every document needs an apostille stamp if you intend to use it outside Canada. The applicant will require a letter from their local registry or records confirming the document’s validity if they are from a country that has not ratified the Hague Convention.
